When couples envision their Sonoma wine country engagement photos, they often picture rolling vineyards, golden hills, and warm California sunshine. But one of the things I love most about photographing couples in Sonoma County is the incredible variety of landscapes we have at our fingertips. Just a short drive from wine country, the rugged coastline of Bodega Bay offers an entirely different kind of beauty.

And for Hailey and M’s engagement session, it couldn’t have been more perfect.

An Engagement Session Along the Bodega Bay Coast

If you’ve ever spent time in Bodega Bay, you know the weather has a personality of its own. It can be bright and sunny just 30 minutes inland while the coastline is covered in thick fog and experiencing 45 mph winds. As a Sonoma County engagement photographer, I’ve learned that you never quite know what the coast has planned for you.

Thankfully, for Hailey and M’s engagement photos, we lucked out.

The coastal landscape provided a beautiful backdrop for their session, with soft natural light, beautiful textures, and the kind of effortless romance that makes photographing couples here so special.

I always want engagement sessions to feel like an experience rather than a production. A little movement, genuine connection, and the freedom to simply enjoy being together will always create photographs that feel more meaningful than anything overly posed.

Connecting Through Creativity and a Shared Appreciation for Art

I adored Hailey from the moment we connected.

I’ve always been drawn to fellow female entrepreneurs, especially women who have built careers around creativity, design, and an appreciation for the finer details. As an entrepreneur myself, there’s something incredibly fulfilling about connecting with women who understand the intention behind creating something beautiful.

Hailey, an interior designer, immediately stood out to me because of the way she spoke about my photography.

She used words like depth, contrast, and richness in black and white imagery. She wasn’t simply describing photographs she liked. She was recognizing the artistic choices and the way I see the world through my lens.

And truthfully, that filled my creative heart.

It’s one thing for someone to love your photographs. It’s another for them to recognize the artistry behind them.

That connection made documenting this chapter for Hailey and M even more meaningful.

One of the greatest advantages of planning Sonoma wine country engagement photos is having access to so many beautiful locations. From the vineyards of Healdsburg and Sonoma to the rolling countryside of Petaluma and the dramatic coastline of Bodega Bay, every location offers something unique.

While vineyards are timeless, I love encouraging couples to consider locations that reflect their personalities and the experience they want to remember.

Bodega Bay is particularly beautiful for couples drawn to a more organic, editorial aesthetic. The coastal scenery, natural movement, and ever-changing light create opportunities for photographs that feel romantic, artistic, and effortlessly timeless.
