Documenting a Sonoma County proposal during the busy wedding season can be challenging, but I recently had a short break in my schedule and was thrilled to capture this stunning moment in Bodega Bay for Connor + Lizzie. A few weeks before his anniversary getaway, Connor reached out to me with plans to propose to Lizzie during their trip to the coast. After hearing his excitement and vision during our phone conversation, I knew this was a moment I couldn’t miss.

The plan was to head to Bodega Head after dinner, just in time for the golden hour at sunset. I would blend in as a beachgoer to keep the surprise intact. In the days leading up to the proposal, Connor and I stayed in touch to confirm the exact location. The beach he chose is known for its dramatic cliffs, popular hiking trails, and a small, secluded beach area that’s a bit of a climb to reach. We decided a private spot along the cliffs would be the perfect setting.

Having visited Bodega Bay many times, I’m familiar with its unpredictable weather—often foggy, windy, and chilly. But on this day, the conditions were nothing short of magical. Clear skies, warm air, and one of the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve seen in a long time set the scene for a truly unforgettable Sonoma County proposal.

Connor and Lizzie arrived quietly and strolled to the cliffside overlooking the ocean. They exchanged heartfelt words and gifts before Connor knelt down on one knee. Even from a distance, the excitement was palpable. The moment was filled with joy, tears, hugs, and kisses, and I felt so honored to be there to capture it.

After giving them a few moments to soak in the experience, I joined them to take some portraits, ensuring they’d have beautiful memories of this special day. This Sonoma County proposal at Bodega Bay was nothing short of perfect—an experience I’ll always treasure documenting.
