Michelle and Blake’s Viansa Sonoma winery wedding was the kind of day that reminds me exactly why I love being a wedding photographer—equal parts joy, emotion, stunning scenery, and the kind of connection you can feel in every moment.

Set in the heart of Sonoma Valley, Viansa is one of those venues that never stops taking my breath away. With its Tuscan-inspired architecture, sweeping vineyard views, and golden California light, it’s truly one of the most iconic places to get married in Northern California. Every detail of the day felt seamless and intentional, a true reflection of the thoughtful planning and design by Grace and Joy Events.

Getting Ready in Sonoma Wine Country

Michelle and Blake chose to get ready off-site, which gave their morning a relaxed, intimate feel. Michelle spent the morning at a stunning Sonoma Airbnb tucked among the vineyards—one of those properties you drive past and instantly dream about. Being surrounded by rolling vines and quiet countryside made for such a peaceful start to the day, and the natural light there was a photographer’s dream.

Meanwhile, Blake got ready nearby with his closest friends, setting the tone for a day that would be centered around connection and celebration.

A Private First Look on the Viansa Terrace

One of my favorite parts of their Viansa Sonoma winery wedding was their first look. The couple chose to meet privately on Viansa’s terrace, which overlooks the vineyards and distant Sonoma mountains.

Blake’s reaction said everything—pure emotion, joy, and awe. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in a sleek sleeved gown paired with a high ponytail—modern, elegant, and effortlessly iconic. The terrace at Viansa is perfect for these moments: secluded enough for privacy, but surrounded by some of the most beautiful views in Sonoma.

After their first look, they were greeted by their wedding party, and it was immediately clear how deeply loved they are. The way their friends embraced them—full of excitement and genuine emotion—set the tone for the rest of the day.

Ceremony with Sweeping Sonoma Valley Views

Ceremonies at Viansa take place on the upper lawn, and it’s hard to put into words just how stunning it is. Perched above the valley, the ceremony site offers panoramic views of vineyards, rolling hills, and distant mountains that seem to stretch endlessly.

As Michelle and Blake exchanged heartfelt vows, the golden California sun lit the entire landscape in that soft glow Sonoma is known for. It’s one of those settings where nature does most of the work—effortlessly romantic and unforgettable for both the couple and their guests.

After the ceremony, they took a few quiet moments alone together—something I always encourage. It’s such a meaningful pause in the day to soak everything in before the celebration continues.

Cocktail Hour on the Terrace

Cocktail hour at a Viansa Sonoma winery wedding is always a highlight. Hosted on the terrace, guests are treated to elevated views of the vineyards below, with the warm Sonoma breeze and golden hour light creating the perfect atmosphere.

Guests enjoyed delicious appetizers and signature cocktails  by the talent at Park Avenue Catering while mingling and taking in the scenery. This is one of the things I love most about Viansa—the flow of the space allows couples to fully experience their wedding alongside their guests, rather than feeling pulled away.

Michelle and Blake joined cocktail hour after a private reception reveal, giving them time to connect with everyone and truly be present.

A Joyful Reception Under the Sonoma Sky

The reception kicked off with an energetic grand entrance that immediately got everyone excited for the night ahead. Michelle and Blake surprised their guests with a choreographed first dance, and it was such a fun, unforgettable moment—everyone cheering them on as the band played their favorite song.

As the evening continued, heartfelt toasts, incredible food, and the warm glow of the setting sun created the perfect ambiance. Later in the night, Michelle changed into a short party dress paired with statement shoes, ready to fully embrace the dance floor.

From that point on, it was pure celebration—music, laughter, and a packed dance floor that carried the night all the way through.
